Breezy Briefings is pleased to present a brand new essay series by Abraham George titled CPaaS, Twilio, Blockchain and Tanla. Special thanks to Amit Mishra and Maneesh Jain for fact-checking and special inputs. Subscribe using the button above or Telegram to receive the latest updates as soon as it is published. This is Part 4 - if you missed the previous parts, check out Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a four-part essay series titled ‘From Gutenburg to Blockchain’(Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4). It was purely to highlight the major technological transformation that has taken place in the last 570 years and how early adopters of this technology stands to benefit a lot.
In the previous report, I also communicated the use of blockchain the best way as I understand it from the foremost experts and how it will impact every aspect of commercial and governmental transactions.
More than 3.5 years ago, I came across a CPaaS company from India. The company was obscure (it still is) and I didn’t meet a single person who had even heard of the company other than a stock investor who happens to be my cousin’s friend. He said, “If you want to make outsized returns, you need to look no further than Tanla.” He was a Godsend angel to me. As I started studying the company, deep-diving into its current business and future potential, it appeared to fit neatly with my macro thesis that was later published in Breezy Briefings as ‘A Case for Investing in India’.
It also happened at a very low point in my life after I had to shut down a quantitative hedge fund with satellite offices in Sydney and London and the HQ in Dubai. I had lost a lot of money for myself and my investors. I was very depressed, refused to meet anyone and wallowed in self-pity. Deep down, I knew that I couldn’t continue like this for long. So, I took to writing on markets to gain perspective.
As I studied Tanla it gave me courage, conviction, confidence and clarity of thought to re-engage with the financial markets all over again. As I understood the macro changes that are taking place and how India can be its biggest beneficiary, I knew Tanla will be in a sweet spot for a significant lift-off. I did not find a single broker or analyst who spotted the opportunity. Tanla didn’t have any brokerage coverage. It’s only lately that IIFL Securities started covering it. So in a way that was good that it remained obscure.
So, I put whatever money I had of it in Tanla mostly. Now, I am an unofficial ambassador for Tanla of sorts, promoting it to anyone who is willing to listen. Fortunately, I have been vindicated time and again. On a CAGR basis, Tanla is arguably the best-performing stock that I have ever bought. So confident am I about Tanla’s future prospects, that I have set up a tactically managed hedge fund for foreigners and NRI investors that the only scrip that I will be holding is Tanla Platforms (in fact, many have stipulated that as a condition for allocating funds).
Apart from all the general accounting parameters we look for in a company, the two most convincing factors that encouraged me to stay invested -Mr. Uday Reddy, the main promoter, has been increasing his stake. When I first invested, the promoters were holding 27% and now it is slightly above 42%. Also, the company has taken every opportunity to buyback its shares by extinguishing them and increasing the holdings of the existing shareholders.
We have come a long way talking about CPaaS, Twilio, Blockchain. Today, I have introduced Tanla platforms to you. In the next 2 episodes, I intend to discuss what Tanla has achieved so far and what it can do more domestically and internationally. It will blow your mind, that I can promise!
So, there we go. Thanks for reading Breezy Briefings. If you enjoyed this, I'd really appreciate if you could take a second and tell a friend. Honestly. It makes such a big difference.
